As the spiralling crisis in Afghanistan gathers pace, the lives of millions of people across the country are now at risk from malnutrition and a collapse in health services. We must urgently call on the UK government to offer meaningful protection and assistance for people caught up in this crisis, especially those at greatest risk, including women and girls, human rights defenders and minority groups.
Progress on the UK government’s ‘Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme’ has been woefully inadequate. The response to the crisis must not be led by quotas but must be driven by the need and pain we see before us, as well as the duty to make Britain a place of safety for those who need it.
Please write to your MP today to ensure Parliament does all it can to ensure safe passage for those fleeing Afghanistan, reforms our refugee and asylum system so that the UK can be a place of sanctuary, and immediately increases aid spending to aid agencies and civil society groups working in Afghanistan and neighbouring countries.
